Re: [CHICKENS-101] Re: "hen pecked"

The truly amusing part to this is ----having done it----if you take out the one or two most agressive, the mob leaders, and put them in the cage for a couple weeks instead, when you try to put them back in the other chickens will beat the daylights out of them.

It's all pecking order.  You're gone long enough, you've been replaced!  You're at the bottom again!

You just have to think of chickens as cartoons.  The funny papers every day.
Don't get too attached, they live by a different set of rules than you do.

My hen seems healthy crop wise. She is eating but she is very shy and seems scared of the others. I took out the less aggressive hen(#2) and put her back in with the others and put the next smallest (#3) in with (#1). They are fine together in the cage but when given the barn #1 stays by herself but in the cage they are together. The cage is large about 2' x 8' and 4' high. I am going to keep these 2 together until Wed. I have off that day so I can keep an eye on them. I think I will put 1,2 and 3 together and see what happens. The remaining 3 are the most aggressive. I will be off work all next week so I will work on those 3 then.
