[CHICKENS-101] Starting Coop Construction Today any advise NOVICE!!!!

I am starting construction today of a coop for 6 amberlinks. I have done alot of research and believe I have enough materials and design to go forward. Here is a brief description of what i am doing.
fully enclosed 6' x 12' x 5'h run, 4'w x 6' x 5'h coop. I am adding plenty of vents that will be able to be closed up for the winter. linoleum floor under litter. (gonna try 6" deep pellets with pine shavings on top. I will have 4 roosts 15"h x 15" w x 15"l with an opening of 14". I have already ordered hardware cloth. 1" x 1", because I have alot of preditors in my area, Hawks (LOTS), skunks, raccoons and squirrels. I anyone has any ideas or suggestions, I would apreciate any feed back one can offer.
Thanks
Jhuf

Susan, your whole post is thrilling and made my day.

But ... she has right now enough $$$ in scholarship money from the school, given each year she attends, to cover basically a full year of school, tuition room and board. And it is almost definate (according to the person I am speaking to at the school....) that she will get more from them. And it IS definate that her father's employer will be giving another scholarship each year. AND THEN ... her dad ( we haven't been together since she was a little bit of a girl, and who hasn't paid a cent of child support for the last 12 years....) told me on the phone that I didn't have to worry about it. He's been saving for this day and it is all done, paid for, taken care of.

Re: [CHICKENS-101] Re: Mean Rooster

This treatment was recommended to me  LAST YEAR from someone on this wonderful group. I had 3 hens and a rooster last year. Now I have 36 in my flock!

Laura, the little thing is tucked into my shirt and sitting right on top of my ah "pillows". It is peeping away. It is eating a bit and actually stuck it's little beak in the watered down chick feed that I offered it. Still not walking around but so much better. It is standing pretty well now. I so hope this chick makes it. I just watch tiny signs that it is improving and so far so good.

Susan, your whole post is thrilling and made my day. Thanks and congratulations. Your daughter must have something going on upstairs to qualify for all those scholarships.

Re: [CHICKENS-101] Mean Rooster

I had a mean roo do similar to that.
I scooped him up in "THE NET", took him out pulled some tail feathers, held his head strong and firm and pulled his head down and up as to almost ring his neck. I held him upside down by his feet. They do not like any of this treatment. Not to hurt him, but to show power over him.
I let him know I have power over him and I then put him in a sub cage with no food and no water for the night. The next day- I returned him to his roost. Now I can show him the net I scooped him up in and he runs.
He has never attacked anyone again. he is a RIR.rooster.
