As long as the acrylic paint can says it is food safe - not all are.

That's why I'd said a clear acrylic. Most plastic food dishes, drinking glasses/bowls, & etc – theirs & ours – , artificial fingernails etc, foodwraps and many other things that come in contact with food we – and they – eat are acrylic-based.
As are those food-safe gloves that people wear...........

The clear coat would have to be food safe; easier to wear washable, thin rubber coated, garden gloves and safer for my birds too.
