Re: [CHICKENS-101] Keeping chickens safe

I killed a whole generation of songbirds that way one year.  Bugs were awful!

Metal stakes.  Bird landed with one foot on the wire, one foot on the stake.   Zap.

I don't know whether they just arrived, or were migrating through, or what, but I went out one day and found a dead bird on every stake.  I was just sick about it.  Learned to use plastic stakes.

If you also have a fence, with the electric wire alongside it, yes, that is exactly what is happening.  I imagine that if they peck at any thing that might ground them, that would kill them too.

Yes, we've seen them land and fall, go out and they are dead. Husband thinks they land on the electric wire and then part of them touches the fence and wire and gets zapped. It's grounded and the brackets are placed right. We are hoping they make longer brackets so wire isn't so close to fence. Would that help?

It's awful and causing a lot of stress.

Thank you for responding.
