I brought a sick hen into the house on Monday . She is a lot better now after some warmth and food. I think she is ready to go back with the rest but want to keep her in a few more days b/c we will have single digit temps (march!!) overnight for a few days. I am concerned that the other hens won't remember her and pick on her. I am fairly new to chickens and this is the first time any have been sick. They are 2 years old now and seem to have been molting since Oct! The feathers in the barn have increased in the last few weeks and the eggs have decreased! The sick hen has not laid an egg since being inside. I don't believe she is eggbound. She is acting normal now and wants out of the cage! She feels about 1/3 to 1/2 the weight of the others . They all are the same color and it is hard to tell them apart but one was sitting on a rock like she was hatching it . Could she have been sitting on the nests and not eating? Sunday eve she seemed sick so I told my DH to watch her on Mon morning. She was lying on her side and he at first thought she was dead. He thought she would die but after being inside she perked up and by the time I got home at 7pm she seemed fine. She has been in 4 days now.
