Why not raise the cockerels to 16-18 weeks on good a chick starter and a little bit of scratch, then have them processed? It's be easier on your and way less painful for your cockerels? Just wondering? Surgery without anesthesia would be horribly painful.

I am checking with a vet about doing the caponizing. Our vet does livestock but doesn't caponize Roos.
I am considering the following - caponizing them and keeping them, raising and processing them and giving them away. The problem with the last choice is I come from a place where more than half the people you might come across didn't know how to treat animals humanely.
They weren't something I asked for, but I feel the need to ensure they have a good life, whether it be short or long.

Never raised them nor have I did the surgery. I tend to avoid invasive surgerys because I do not have the capability to put them out or sedate them. I have read that capons are more gentle and do not fight with other roosters.Cathryn rainbowsilkiesTM in Michigan
