Gee, I wish *we* had a butcher that gave away bones! (I love bone broth!)
I remember reading somewhere that farm boys were sometimes expected to trap or shoot a weekly "critter" (raccoon, squirrel, possum, whatever) for the chickens. The belly would be slit open (I guess they won't normally peck through the skin) and it was then left for the chickens to pick over. Another way of satisfying their need for protein. I have to admit to looking wistfully at road-kill and wondering...
