The chickens are not free. Someone unaffiliated to Animal Place posted on craigslist that the birds were free but this is not true. These rescues cost thousands of dollars and adoption fees offset a small portion of each rescue. Our adoption fee is reduced for this rescue - $7/hen for 1-9 hens and $5/ hen for 10-15 hens. This is a reasonable fee for healthy, 8-12-month old ISA Brown hens.
The adoption events are not on Fridays – that is when the rescues are happening. The adoption events are Saturday and Sunday at a local feedstore and are only open to approved adopters (you are welcome to stop by and meet the hens but only approved adopters can take them home.)
