Re: [CHICKENS-101] Re: Respiratory problem - please help! Gape? MG? Cholera? Update

You can't find a smaller bottle for less?  Do you have a Tractor Supply Company?  They should have it for about 25.00. If you can't afford both just go with the one med. I'd give both, but I do not have children at home. Mine are grown and it makes a huge difference in disposable income. You'll have to do the best with what you can afford. If you have apple cider vinegar add a 1/4 to 1/8 teaspoon to his med water that you make up for him each day. I am guessing you are only making up a quart or pint at a time? The ACV helps his med be more effective.

Thanks Cathryn!
So do I really need to spend the $50 on the tylan?! Can you buy it for less? Can I just try the tetroxy? Should I give the tetroxy for the whole 14 days?
We actually hatched out this chick. His mom is our favorite old hen and his dad went off to a farm where the hens could handle his manly-ness! But I did buy 3 week old chicks from a local farm to raise w/ our hatchling. One of those is the nasty roo we culled last weekend. The other 2 seem fine health-wise.
Perhaps one of my old hens has this condition hiding and that's where my little roo picked it up?
A million thanks for responding to so many of my posts!

There is absolutely no way to diagnose your chicken without expensive testing, we can only go on symptoms. MG most likely came with your chickens from the hatchery; the majority of hatcheries will not give mycoplasma free NPIP helath certificates, I know I tried to find mycoplasma free hatcheries.  I did not ask you to cull him. I emailed you quite awhile ago when he was first sick and recommended that you add tylan200 to your rooster's Tetroxy. You do with him as you wish including medication. I do know the longer his illness goes on the less chance that he will ever recover. Mycoplasmas hide isndie cell parts, not just inside cells.
