Nobody has asked where you live and what the weather is or what breed of hen is sitting.... Your hen should be fine with no supplemental heat, after all she does have a down coat on .... It's terrible to be too hot especially if you can't move because you are sitting on eggs .... It also makes it seem colder to her when she goes outside... Many people who hatch eggs in incubators open the incubators and let the eggs cool for 15 mins a day... They think it makes the chick heartier .... my hen got confused and switched nests.... The good eggs were cold for 18ish hours and they hatched. When the chicks hatch they will stay under mama hen most of the first few days and then start to venture out.... How many eggs is she sitting on?? If she isn't brooding too many chicks she should be ok keeping them warm without extra help.....
Good luck

I put the food and water within reach so she doesn't have to leave the nest. But this morning she left the nest and when I noticed it, the eggs were already cool to the touch. After a few minutes more, she came back to the nest and she is now sitting on the eggs again.
