Britta, The belt on the butt as I bent over a chair, lectures from my parents and their vet, left a deep impression, (and a few red marks), made me very cautious of all future bat handling. I had a magazine to slide between the floor and net if I had not been able to pick her up. Considering the barns and how the cattle barn rooms and my storage sheds are set up, isn't odd I've had zero bats in the barns.
I do write and spend many hours writing--- IEPs for my caseload students. Our Ole`George, Lisa- Zilla, and Teresa- Sidesaddle are our members who each need to write books. Their posts are often unusually hilarious and make my day!
I taught Science and Social Studies (and math),for a good 20+ years, teaching part time and full time; it's suited me perfectly. Because our bosses have had to pick and choose, my special talent is teaching children to read and write using their core subjects and specialized instruction, I am teaching English LA Skills-Special Ed and Co teaching with gen ed. Me, of all people, teaching reading and writing when I can barely type and spell! LOL! Zero pet stories, but many individualized education plans written and more waiting.
I hope there is no school tomorrow. I am having problems sleeping from all of the steroids pumped into me from a reaction to an antibiotic Saturday morning. Think I'll bundle up and go check out my chicks and old lavender Blueberi then try to get back to sleep. Five am comes so early...

Subject: [CHICKENS-101] re: holding a bat by the scruff of its neck? :) Really?
Dear Cathryn,
Ha ha! Then it IS true, you really DID hold the bat by the scruff of its neck! Too funny! And more amazing than that! You really are quite the animal handler, and I enjoyed all your bat stories…… (very funny about you and your brother being so quiet and getting along cause you had the bat hidden away….) you wrote:
There I was holding a furious, scared witless, chittering bat that had her entire mouth full of needle like teeth bared at me! Looked at him and told him, "Yes, Jesus made an adorable little bat, isn't she something?"
A. Ha ha! Very sweet! Now, I agree that Jesus made the bat, but I'm afraid, I'm not quite to the point of seeing a bat in the kindly way that you do….. maybe some day! :)
No, the rabies shots did not hurt much at all… I think that was the old version of the shots. More than anything it was a bother for me to have to get them, you know? Interrupted an already too busy of schedule….
Anyway, you should write a book of all your animal stories? Or have you already done that? If you did, I would want to buy the book.
Thanks for writing!
Truly,
Britta
