Everyone here has closed dumpsters or what they call cans, which are huge, square plastic trash barrels with attached lids. Everyone has 3. Black for garbage, blue for recycled stuff and green for garden stuff. I actually looked around since everyone has their trash out today for pickup tomorrow and none have been disturbed.
Backyard chickens are not that new to this area. The lady I'm getting mine from has been delivering all over CA for 10 years and started this because everyone wanted just a few chickens and didn't want to have to order the 25 chicks. With all the trash barrels out by tonight, I'll see if any of them have been disturbed in the morning when I take the dogs out.
In Idaho, we have the 3S rule. Shoot, shovel and shut-up. Since I can't shoot in the city, I will find another way. Have to go to Home Depot this week-end, they should have a trap. I'll make up my own rule for this God forsaken place....TBD, trap, bag and dump (LOL).

KC, Garbage and dumpsters are what have attracted raccoons to and allowed them to reproduce without natural predators in cities. Backyard chickens are a relatively new trend while dumpsters and trash has been an on going feast for varmints. Our trash man told my husband that when he dumps Hungry Howie's dumpster often several coons and opossums are compacted with the trash too. When the dumspters are emptied is when they mosey over to my farm and get caught in my live traps. Their next stop is the bottom of the compost pile.
