If you are raising chickens for earnings, like selling eggs, chicks, etc and
have a big enough operation, you can get farm livestock insurance or some
companies will give you a rider on your home coverage. If you have show
chickens and are actively showing and breeding, I believe you can insure
them as well. But, pet chickens don't usually get covered.
I have a small farm in Idaho and even on my Miniature Jersey cattle, I could
only get a rider and they are worth a lot. Never even thought about the
40-50 chickens, even though I sell eggs, chicks and started birds.
