Re: [CHICKENS-101] Egg question

I learned years ago that the blood spot is from the chicken not metabolizing the food properly. Because it's only occasionally in an egg, it is not a big thing, especially if they are free range and eating bugs and such. My chickens would get it periodically in their eggs because they are great at scratching up cow patties for the undigested grain. If you find it constantly in eggs, then you have to look at the composition of the food you are giving.

The white spot is nothing to even think about. It's albumin (which a lot of what the egg white is comprised of) that is just a little thicker then normal. Some chickens produce heavier albumin.

These are things I've learned from experts and extension offices and the NET along the way.

Hope it helps.

Lori, The meat spot or speck of blood is ok, I take it out with my fingers and rinse it down it down the drain.
