RE: [CHICKENS-101] Small Jersy Giants and Guineas

Hi Susan,

Clipping a Guinea’s wing will do the same as for a chicken.  It will render it unable to fly and distance.  However, Guinea wander about on foot just fine and then can cover some area.  Mine trek from the barn to the pastures and around the farm and some never even attempt to fly—so clipping the wing will prevent long distance flying but it does nothing for long distance “hikes”.  Sorry.

2 questions. We have 3 Jersy Giants. 2 are growing really big and one is about 1/2 size, still hasn't got all her feathers, etc. They were born March 1 of this year. Any ideas about what could be wrong or did I just get a strange one, or mixed one? They all get the same feed, treats, and have lots of water. Can chickens be developmentally delayed like people? She really is a sweet little thing!

Can you trim Guinea wing feathers on one side to help keep them in the backyard area? I don't want them to wander to far and know that they will if given a chance.

Appreciate your help. Susan in Conyers, GA
