Re: [CHICKENS-101] Storms

Laura, I am so sorry Splashie died in the storm. You could see if your roosters will take on the all of the chicks and finish raising them up. Put them all in at night around the two roosters in the dark, and check them in the morning. If you need more nn silkies I have a blue, gray, and a partridge with penciling 2.5 months old.

OMG, I can't believe that storm last night.  It seemed to have come from nowhere and I was expecting to see a witch bicycling by the window!  Our deck furniture went flying, we lost power until 5am and the roof on two of the coops flew off!  Sadly, one of the coops had my Splashie in it and she was dead this morning.  I think the roof may have crushed her before being lifted……not sure, but she is gone.

Everyone else seems no worse for wear and we repaired the rooftops, today.  Also put electrolytes in everyone's water and made sure fans were running and shade was available to all.

I have some Silkies chicks that are almost four months old.  I am selling some but keeping some and want to integrate them in with Chi chi  (Splashie's BFF)  and the two boys, Barty and Ichibod.  So, my thought is to gradually add hens to the coop, one at a time in the evening when it is dark and sleepy time.  I plan to keep a black hen, blue hen, buff hen.  The little cockerels are going to be kept separate and I don't want to add them to this mix- I think Barty and Icky will hurt them.  Any thoughts?

PS- Cathryn,  Splashie and Chi chi were two that you sent me awhile back.

Well the storms last night roared though here in central Virginia . We were just getting ready for bed when they hit. I was sitting on the bed and felt the house shake. My first thought was" great an earthquake on top of the storm". Lol Hubby and I went out to check and found it was a pine tree that had come down and the top tip of it hit the porch on our end of the house. No damage to the house, but it came down straight across our chicken tractor with the babies in it. Fortunately it only came down on the run and they were closed in the coop for the night. We had to get up first thing this morning and get the tree off the run and do a quick rigging job to get it to a point where we could let the babies out. Got that taken care of and cut up the rest of the tree. Then went out front where a tree had started to come down and got hung up on the tree beside it. Hubby got it pulled down into the woods. We have leaf litter and debris all over the yard, but no damage to life or property other than the chicken run. Oh yeah, power was out from 10:00 till 6 this morning.
