It does happen if they get that shock just as the animal is doing something to them. My husband uses cow dogs that are trained to catch the cow, rather than herd for the most part, and his old set of collars developed a short in them where the #1 button worked on the #2 collar, and he didn't know it, and went to correct the #1 dog just as the #2 was doing what it was supposed to, and getting the cow caught, and the dog thought the cow had done it, and really tore into her. LOL If it's done right, by someone that is experienced in it, and the collars don't get messed up, it can be effective, it's not something to be used where a good firm no would work though. But all of our young uns get 'em while out working because a lot of times you can't stop what your doing and get off your horse to correct a dog. But over use also will break them from ever wanting to have anything to do with what you are training them in also, and some of the more docile breeds like the Border Collies don't do well with them either. Above all if you don't know what you're doing don't try it till you can get an experienced person to help you.

Yes,I could see how that could happen with the dog getting confused and getting mad at whatever he thinks shocked him (birds, other dogs, people) and causing worse problems. I was thinking I had seen something that used sound to train dogs.? I've also heard of a 'clicker' method.? Anyone know about these & thoughts? Thanks.
