It's been up to 112F here, and my chickens are doing well, except for my
sweet silkie roo who has an upper respiratory infection.  I have been
giving him antibiotics and although I still hear congestion, he acts the same as
always.

My little white silkie hen went broody, and having her up in the nest box
all day in this heat scared me.  I put a frozen water bottle in with her
every day.  I also put a small water dish in there with her, but she would
always end up sitting on it!  sometimes with her feet tucked right into
it.  I think it helped keep her cool.  It was a big relief when she
quit.

My main defense against the heat, besides deep shade: a mister.  I
have one of those "cobra" freestanding misters that you just attach to a
hose.  It makes a mucky mess after being on all day, but it's truly the
difference between life and death in this heat.  That and large terra cotta
plant saucers used as wading pools.  A panting chicken will quit panting
within a minute of stepping into one of these.
