The egg looked like it had been cracked into halves, in an even line, then glued back together. All of her eggs were like that after a dog attack. My vet and I had to carefully retrieve broken egg out of her. It's rare for a bird to recover such a severe trauma and injury. I was fortunate.
Unknown to me the nasty chow from across the street had crossed and was stalking us. The real estate company across the street saw it all. I had went to get a shovel and came back to chaos. After my barred rock being viciously grabbed by her back and her insides crunched, she and her sister ran across the yard, up the sidewalk. The other hen had a gash on her leg, keel, and back. Thankfully being friends with local businesses brought both hens back home to me within a very short time and ran to call the police while I looked for my student's chicks. My barred rock hens were put into my car in paper boxes so the air conditioning could blow on them, and I called my vet on my way there. My lavender chicks raised by my classroom could not be found. We found little pieces of organs where the dog had ripped them apart and ate them. The owners paid dearly for their dog's 2nd attack on my chickens that were in the yard with me, minding their birdy business. Precious and Perry were dead and gone, and the judge who had a child in my school at the time did not take kindly to it at all.
Fines and court costs, plus restitution. Then their dog was hit by a car crossing the street to get back to my farm for further harassment of my chickens in their outdoor pens. The county took the dog and put it down.
