Re: [CHICKENS-101] Abilene coop 145 gram egg

Go for it!  And let us know what happens.  I have heard of people trying to hatch "twins" and failing because of failure to thrive either in the process or directly after hatching.  You would have to really watch the temp and humity, turning, etc.   If I ever get a big egg I will try to hatch it.  I did 3 hatches this spring.  First one was a bust, just a few hatched.  Don't know why.  The 2nd hatch was about 60% and they all lived, and the 3rd was about 80% and I only lost 2.  They were all different breeds and a few mixed.  Pretty little chicks.  Sometimes I think the mixed are prettier than the pures.  Now I have about 30 chicks of different ages in the backyard pens.  Gave away a lot of them.  Hatching is too much fun.

We got new neighbors about a month ago and I had to get rid of my roos.  I only have a Silkie roo in with my Silkie girls now.  Since we have gotten to know the neighbors better they are ok with the chickens and I am looking for a new roo or two.  Probably a Maran of some kind and a standard frizzle.  Thanks to a mean racoon that went to racoon heaven last Monday night, I only have 4 hens in the back yard.

Have a great day!   Susan in Conyers, GA

We have had some whoppers this year, too.  Easily twice as big as a normal egg.  Inside, two full sized yolks………so two eggs in one shell.

I have been tempted to try to incubate one and see what happens.  I am thinking of the movie, Twins with Arnold Schwarznegger and Danny Devito…..LOL!
