If the smell of their feed is unpleasant, check the feed. Feed should never smell unpleasant. Is it rancid? Contaminated by spilled chemicals? Moldy? Dumor is purina aka putrina.

Subject: [CHICKENS-101] hydrated lime
I am neww to chickens having gotten 6 chicks 8 weeks ago. They have a stall in the barn about 6x10 with an outside run 8 x 16 x 5 . I am finding the smell kind of "weird". I think it is their feed . They are on Dumor Chick Starter and I find the smell unpleasant. The floor of their stall is dirt and I raked in a light coating of hydrated lime with a thick layer of hay. I am wondering if the hydrated lime is OK to use in the stall and in the run?
