I went ahead and put the two little cockerels in with the older (by about a week) chicks this afternoon, since I had an hour or so I could sit with a book and watch over things. Looks like everything is going well, no "henpecking," although <g> the older chicks are a bit like the sophomores shoving past the freshmen (or junior high) in the hallways... The little guys have located the food and water and explored a bit (they were in the same coop, but inside a rat-wire circle under a second, smaller, heat lamp). They *do* like the big heat lamp better. One of them actually stretches out on his side--I've seen him do it before when he was in the "cage," but now it's like "Ahhhhh--sun at the beach!"
<g> I figured I might as well put them together--two of the girls had already managed to fly up and teeter on the top of the wire, although they jumped down again. Amazing how those little wings already work. And the boys seem to have grown already, just from having more room to trot around in.
