Re: [CHICKENS-101] [Chickens101] rooster temperment

Aw!  Now that is too bad. Actually, the dark thought lurked in the back of my mind, but I didn't want to say anything, was that maybe that's why you found him on the side of the road. He WAS somebody's "pet" rooster who turned aggressive so they dumped him.  Now YOU have to deal with him!   Aggressive roosters are a major PIA. My own little sweet Sachi, a silver blue Modern Game that we raised from a chick, is very good and mannerly around me and my daughter. But OMG if my poor husband tries to come in the coop...Sachi will fight to the death! My husband will simply pick him up and carry him around, or lovingly hold him for a spell...but the minute he lets his guard down, Sachi will peck and kick. Sachi has never been abused in any way. But boy oh boy, he won't stop attacking hubby.  I hope you don't have a problem on your hands. Don't feel guilty if you have to get rid of him.

So my rooster was sweeter before he started defending the girls. Now he is acting aggressive towards me. I had to go into the coop today to reset their plank they use to get into the coop and I let them all out so I could shut the door while I was doing it.

He will actually try to attack me. Ugh. I know it's his job and I'm happy he feels ownership towards the girls but I don't really want to have to carry a rake to keep him at bay. He went to attack me earlier and I pushed him away with the rake. I didn't do it hard, just enough to stop him from getting to me.

So the suggestion that I should hold him is not a viable one. I'm afraid he'll take out an eye. I did give him some treats personally before I gave any to the girls and I know he liked that. I got him back into the coop by tossing some greens in there after had feeding him some.
