Re: [CHICKENS-101] Meanest breed?

Silkie roosters will help hens sit on eggs, help hens raise the chicks, take care of the chicks after the hens are tired of them, and die protecting them. Partridge colors and reds are the most aggressive against predators and are the colors I use to raise my meat birds and meat turkeys.  While aggressive to predators my silkie roosters run to my hands to for treats and to be picked up.
Since you are using cochin hens why don't use the cockerels and roosters to protect their hens and chicks?  Once the quail are 3-4 weeks old they will not mind their hens anyway.  I have found that domestic quail let loose just end up being hawk and cat bait, same with pheasants.

HI,
I have a project that I'm starting and I was wondering what you guys think the meanest chicken breed is as far as roosters go. I'm raising quail for my grandpa to let go on his property and I'm going to use bantam cochins as my broody hens and mothers, but I was looking for a breed of chicken that is mean/smart to add to the flock so they will help to protect the hens while the are sitting on their clutches of quail eggs.
