Re: [CHICKENS-101] broody hen

It might not be too cold. Sounds like the temperatures up here in northern Wisconsin in April when I have let hens set on eggs. If you keep her out the wind she will probably be OK. She should be able to keep the chicks warm in March when they hatch. You could discourage her from being broody now by moving her off the nest a couple of times a day and removing all eggs, but she might not get broody later when you want her to.

im in northern Arkansas where we just went through a really really bad ice and snow storm. the high today is finally near 60 but the lows are still at or below 32. I have a sweet little hen who has gone broody. she gathers up as many as she can get and starts setting. she turned about 2 weeks ago during the worse part of the weather. I have NEVER had one go broody this early, and I keep taking her eggs; and I am even talking to her and telling her its too cold and she wont hatch or if she did, they would die. nothing is working. I DO want her to go broody in another month or so, but not now. any suggestions on how I can stop her now, but not discourage her for later??
