Re: [CHICKENS-101] Meanest breed?

I agree with the Buff Rooster, while mine is as gentle as a kitten with my grand children and with me, and get along well with the goats and cats, he is very protective of his hens and has actually fought off the nasty little terrier that lives two houses down from me and loves to come over and be a pain.
Additionally I have seen him circle the "girls" under one of the bushes or into one of the sheds when he sees a hawk.

I used Nankins to raise quail - the hens are terrific moms and the roosters are little jackasses, but protective. Shrill though. My Nankin hens built a shared nest and co-sat/co-parented. The second go around, I gave them standard eggs and they hatched out 7 chicks who within 6 weeks were bigger than mom. It was summer and plenty hot but I was concerned that they wouldn't be able to keep the chicks warm. But they did. The funniest thing is that at a few months of age, the chicks would lay down beside each other and the moms would climb on top and sleep there in little chicken pyramids.
