off topic....how to kill my "girls"??
i have been a "lurker" here for about a year now, i think.i am very new at homesteading.. i have learned one important thing...".Dont Name Your Food"...ooops.. so a little history here... when i bought my 4 acres in dec '07, it came with 1 goat (that hollered 24/7), 5 hens 1 rooster. (all old english game according to the folks i bought my house from). not knowing any better, i named them... those chickens grew to 39 by the fall of 08. this got me into chickens. now i have sereval other breeds including bantams (they are so cute)..i have always been a "gatherer".( i hate to throw stuff away, hard times will come). my nearest neighbor is about a quarter mile away and across the road. they are carpenters and they built my chicken pens using alot of the stuff i didnt throw away. sorry..to the point.. how do i kill one of my girls? Yes,, i still name them. ...cant help my self....but ..hard time are upon us. if i do kill one for food...how do i prosess it??
all advise is welcome as i am a newbie to homesteading.  thanks in advance.

Shannon, The help stopped with checking on the hens.  I am hoping to hire the teens next door the time they are over visiting this coming weekend so the pens do not get too dirty.  I need to get more than 2 half barrels of dirty bedding a day out of the barns. I can't keep ahead and am now behind.  Right now I have zero dependable help and have not been able to find someone I can count on.  The one guy now has disability supposedly for his back, to go along with his food stamps.  Yet he did everything here (including heavy equipment) until he made 75-100 or so then skipped showing up until he'd spent it.  I quit calling him because when I need to clean, I need to clean, not 3-5 weeks later. Once I get caught up I am going to make myself clean every day even if I am dragging.
