Presently 9 degrees in western Illinois, and I recall why I liked Arizona. I had an extra LP catalytic heater going in the nursery last night for my new babies - Austalorps, RIR, and some Wyandottes of various colors. With their three heat lamps they were fine this morning. The big girls (Cherry Egger, Red Star, and Austalorps) all take the cold very well as long as I keep their water from freezing.

It's time to hook up the water heater bases! Temperatures are dropping to 15 tonight; winter is here. I need to buy stock in and toe warmers. My silkies make for good hand warmers though they protest my cold hands on their skin underneath their down. LOL!
