Mary,
I had several of these as my younger birds started laying. They all laid one or two of these the first few weeks they started to lay. I believe this is normal. I have never eaten any of them, so can't speak of eating them. This is part of the natural egg laying process. If you have oyster shell available, they will eat it when they need it.
