My Plymouth white rock rooster Delbert had all of his hens and pullets in the little coop house when I went outside yesterday. (Hate it that it is dark so early!) He is such a good rooster. During our storm I put him in his coop last night with his girls and told him to stay. He must have called the two that took off in the dark, out of the coop, after I put them in, because they were in the coop when checked on later. I love that rooster so much!
Hopefully, today I will get Del and his girls switched to the chick barn behind the cattle barn while I dismantle their pen roof and try to re do it in the cold. Ugh! High winds tore off/up 3 huge tarps that ran the length and width of the pen and each layer had ropes across on top staggered the length of the pen so the wind could not rip them off. (Heavy duty taps cost plenty too.) There are T supports to keep the roof up to have a peak so rain and snow falls/runs off with the tarp sides going down a foot or two on the side of the fence for extra strength. The wind broke cotton ropes, tie downs and rope tied to grommets, and ripped up all 3 layers. The storm winds brought back our cold Michigan weather. Now I wish I had ordered more tarps. I ordered clear heavy duty tarps for 2 sides of their pen where the most sun hits during the day and evening, and was going to hang their regular heavy duty side tarps back up. Best laid plans of men and mice.
