All I have to say about cats and chickens is: if I die suddenly, I hope I die inside. I have watched my chickens attack and kill rodents and frogs, run off cats, and I am sure that they can more than handle themselves. My chickens would quickly eat me if I stayed still too long! They are truly little dinosaurs! Nursing a sick chicken back to health in the house taught me a huge lesson - that little chicken backed off even the most nosiest and biggest cat.
To Patrick:
Your chickens will be fine in regards to cats. I have ferals outside that are quite frightened of my ducks, guineas and chickens.
I lived in so Cal. You have way more things to worry about than cats. Coyotes are everyone's biggest chicken threat, followed by hawks.
