Years ago I raised chickens for meat. I could do all the de-feathering and cleaning but never have been able to chop their heads off. So one day when hubby happened to be gone I was just fed up with all the young roosters and their "rape" in the hen house and decided you guys are gong in the stew pot right now! But how was I going to kill them? So I carefully broached the subjuect to my nephews, probably around the ages of 10 and 11, to see how they felt about doing it. Oh sure we'll do it no problem. So I brought them out about 10 roosters, told them the finer humane points of head-chopping the hid in the house so I wouldn't have to see the dasterly deed. Finally curiosity got the better of me and I peeped out the window. They were having a ball watching the headless chickens run around the yard! I was the one who was traumatized! So I guess boys will be boys and no they didn't grow up to be serial killers. both are in their 40's now and both are in fields of caring for others.
p.s. don't ask me how many ancient non-laying, free-loading chickens I keep around as "pets" now....<8-)
