From experience, I have not raised many broods but one year I let my silkies raise their own. Candling was not one of my strong points. Somewhere around day 20 I was checking them out, with a flashlight and a couple came up solid dark. I assumed they were dead but put back not wanting to deal with them at the moment. The next day when I went out to dispose of them they were talking to me. So be careful
