I have 15 laying hens that are free range during the day. I have never given them supplemental grit and have never had an impacted crop. They give me eggs every day.
I do dry and grind up egg shells and mix it in their feed. Susan

I disagree totally...I use regular sized grit for everything over a week.
Grit is required---
But how are you defining free range? No tracotr...no protection....just
wander anywhere
