The thin egg shell calls for poultry vitamins and free choice oyster shell. 16% is not adequate for silkies as a general rule.

Diana,
I am not sure what you are missing. when I have had the samething happen to me now and then I just add Oyster Shell to their feed, found if I left it out in a seperate bowl they would not take it that way. And i would also take the egg shells that I used in the house and cleaned them out really good and then let them air dry or put them in the microwave just enough to dry the shell out or the oven. Then I put them in a coffee grinder that I have. I just let it crush the shell till its like powder then sprinkle it on the their food. I have a small jar that each time I do this I just add it to the jar till I have enough to add to the feeder for everyone
Sorry, I am not much help but that is what I do and it works for me.

Today I picked up her egg and it was so fragile it just crushed. They all get the same feed, scratch, treats and oyster shell. She had mites a couple of months ago and most of the feathers on her face are gone but she was treated and I check her and all of them often. I also treated the coop and their run and their bathing areas in the yard. Everyone else has normal shells. What am I missing?
