Re: [CHICKENS-101] New chicks

Hey Susan, not sure where that is at in GA.
I'm planning on getting ameraucanas (due to the weird egg colors) Barred Rock (my nanny had them, and my dad would like to see one in the yard) Hamburg (just thought was pretty) Marans (I'm weird but for the egg color). I'll have to figure out 6 all together. So I'm getting 3 ameraucanas for sure. I just would like a colorful egg carton. My last hens were all RIR, but I had 4 that was a RIR and a mix of something else. The guy I bought them from said he mixed them for egg productions. All I know is those hens layed a pretty soft shelled egg. Even with oyster shells they were still soft. My other 3 pure RIR's eggs were harder shelled. Maybe whatever those other 4 were mixed with is why the egg shell was so soft.

You aren't that far from us. We are in Conyers, GA. Our TSC has chick days also. I usually buy from friends in the area or hatch my own. You can find a lot of deals on Craig's List also. Not saying the TSC ones are not good ones though. They could be anywhere from 2 days old up. Depends on where they were shipped from and when they arrived at the store. Enjoy your chicks. What kind are you getting? Susan
