Make sure your barley is hulled or you'll
loose hens for sure. Wheat, millet, or oats
would be a better choice. >>
But I'm referring to SPROUTED barley--so they'll have sprouted greens during the winter. Not for feeding straight grain. If it's hulled, it won't sprout, will it?
I ran across feeding of sprouted grains somewhere on line--recommended for poultry-- they included all sorts, including sunflower seeds--but barley seemed to be the most affordable and readily available through Johnny's Seeds (a seed company near me, so likely to have seeds/plants that will do well here).
Thanks for the info, though. Never having fed straight barley, I wasn't aware hulling was needed.
