[CHICKENS-101] Re: Poopy butt = fly larvae

 

It's called, 'fly strike' and is due to poopies on the vent. This occurs with mammals as well, in particular, rabbits and orphaned wildlife in general.

If you have a maggot problem, try Capstar. You can get it from any vet or animal supply house. It's very safe, can be repeated for several days and will kill any maggots internally and externally within a few hours. I use it all the time in the wildlife rehab situation.

That said, perhaps you need to discover why your bird has a poopie vent. An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure ;)
