That's because viruses/bacteria can pass from humans to pigs, and from pigs to humans.

The local school used to give their scraps to a guy for his penned hogs and they made them quit.

I've tried to get the groceries to give me the produce they toss out in the trash (perfectly good to eat in most cases) for the wildlife I have and also for my birds in the winter. They insist it's `against the law' to do this as they can't take the chance that I will go home, eat it myself and get sick. Funny how nothing seems to happen to big corporations when they poison us with food that we've PAID for.

I did manage to shame a local grocery into giving me what they toss after I signed a paper stating that I was a licensed wildlife rehabilitator (had to show my licenses) and what my intent for the food was. Evidently, this gets them off the hook although I'd venture to say, anyone eating `garbage' and getting sick would not have a case to begin with. My guess is that they just don't want hungry people hanging around begging for food.

We waste so much of everything in this country :(
