Re: [CHICKENS-101] Little White hen in the corner

You have to love those little hens that fight for a nest or peeps :-)   Seems like they have more heart or a wicked stubborn streak :-)  I have one little banty hen that will take no crap from any others and she sat on a nest for months with none hatching, Then one day one egg hatched .... it was a Barred Rock ...I took her and the chick and brought them inside ....cage was used and she and chick were happy.  After 2 months they were allowed outside ....sadly the chick ran off and dogs got her :-(  Mom spent 2 weeks looking for her offspring ...it was such a sad sight :-(

I have a tiny white hen of unknown parentage, who has tried all summer to hatch chicks. Night before last I went over to the ancient mobile home I use for my Silkies and babies. I saw that plump Mama Silkie had usurped the nest. I just shrugged, so Silkie. I went on and fed all the others, but when I noticed that little White Hen was giving Silkie Mama a thorough beaking, with accompanying shrieks. OK, back off you never hatch anything, but I'll look. Yup, nest full of bits, and Mama Silkie wanted them a lot. I grabbed the peeps and the white hen, family is now doing fine. Mama Silkie is still sitting in the corner. She get whatever comes out of the incubator next.
