Re: [CHICKENS-101] Returning a mother hen back to the flock

It will Not hurt the chicks to be raised separate from the momma. I hatch from an incubator all the time and brood my chicks separate.Take momma out of the pen and reintroduce her after dark and your roo should accept her just fine. After a few days momma will forget all about the chicks as long as she can't see and hear them. Good luck.

Subject: [CHICKENS-101] Returning a mother hen back to the flock

I would like to return my mother hen(s) back to the flock after the chicks are a couple weeks old because I do not have enough small individual pens to accommodate all the hens who incubated my hatching eggs and this way I would like to keep all the chicks together in one pen. I tried it on the oldest batch of chicks and discovered that this is not that easy. My rooster will not accept the hen back and is terrorizing her so I am going to separate him. Also, I feel guilty for separating her from the chicks and it is heart wrenching to watch her devotion. Does anyone have any tips on this?
Thanks, Jennie
