Re: [CHICKENS-101] Hens dine on cat food

  1. When I am preparing to start my incubator's for the season I feed my hens cat food. The high protien for some reason makes my eggs mor viable and I get better hatch rates. I wouldn't worry about it, unless, of course your neighbor complains.

When I open the coop in the morning for my three hens to free range, they head for the neighbor's cat food bowl. I am trying my best to feed them organic food--they have crumbles, BILLIONS of grasshoppers, and at night they receive a handful of scratch.

What is so appealing about the cat food, and is there anything I can do to prevent it? I'm not happy about eating cat-food created eggs.
