Ginger, Hens and pullets decide to brood based on their hormones. If I wanted my hen to go broody, I would give her a pen with a nest in a corner where it is not dark and not in bright light. I'd feed her 18-20% with oyster shell on the side, poultry vitamins in her water fresh every day, treats like half a squash, chopped dandelions, chickweed, and purslane. In other words I'd set the scene and let her keep her fertile eggs in her nest.
