I use the lid to one of those 33 or so gallon plastic garbage cans, upsidedown, and mix maybe a cup of DE into a bunch of sand poured into it. You can also use wood ashes if you have any.
I love DE - has never failed yet for anything I've used it for.

It's been so wet lately that the girls have been trying to dust themselves on the floor of the chickenhouse in the hay leavings. what I would like to do is given them a tray of diatomaceous earth to dust in instead. does anyone have any thoughts about this? how big should the tray be? my girls are about 3 lbs each but my big boy is easily 7 - 9 lbs.
