Re: [CHICKENS-101] More on low egg production & molting

Mine molted earlier and are starting another molt. It's perfectly normal especially because your weather has not been normal. Neither has ours and it's been hard on the birds with heavy down.

Subject: [CHICKENS-101] More on low egg production & molting

This last Spring quite a few of my hens went into a real good molt for the first time since I started with them 2-3 years ago & my egg production was drastically reduced.

When cleaning out their coop yesterday it hit me that there were an awful lot of feathers, as well as outside. Going out several times a day, I guess I just kinda overlooked it until it built up.

Was wondering if they can go through a second molt in a year, or perhaps the ones who didn't in the Spring are now doing their thing? I thought it would be too late in the year. As I mentioned in my earlier posting, our weather has been more on the cool side; haven't really had our summer yet! Any insight would be helpful before I decide that they may be ready for the stew pot this next year :)
