RE: [CHICKENS-101] Bedding was New Chicks

i am rather new to baby chicks, I grew up on a farm but that was years ago, I incubate my eggs and hatch my chicks, which I am hatching now, I just wanted to share an experience, I did not like anything I used last time the chicks hatched out, newspaper, crosscut shreds, I keep my chicks in a box on an enclosed porch for a week or so before putting in the brooder, ok this time I bought some pine shavings and put them in the box and put paper towels over the shavings, I have found what works for me, I can change the paper towels when they are soiled without removing or touching the chicks, they move for me, I sprinkle the feed over the towels and they eat from there, they are 3 days old and I just put a feeder in, I had a shallow dish for water, time for the water bottle tho, well just my 2cents but I am happy with my setup now. I keep my light on them also.

We ordered the chicks last night they will get here next friday. I am putting together the brooder this weekend, doing a trial run for the heat lamp/temp and picking up the first aid items we need this weekend...

I hope i am not geting in over my head!
