They need to revamp the poultry classes at your Fair to represent what people are showing.
At out Junior Fair (4H kids) we have:
Large Fancy Pair-Current Year (Cockerel & Pullet)
Large Fancy Pullets-Current Year
Large Fancy Pair-Previous Year (Cock & Hen)
Large Fancy Hens-Previous Year
Production Pullets-Current Year
Production Hens-Previous Year
Bantam Fancy Pair-Current Year
Bantam Fancy Pullets-Current Year
Bantam Fancy Pair-Previous Year
Bantam Fancy Hens-Previous Year
We also have a separate market class for broilers (meat birds) where a local poultry company gives each 4H kid a dozen day old broiler chicks about 7 weeks before the fair. The kids raise them and take their best two birds to the fair where they are judged and auctioned at the fair. The 4Her gets to keep the other 10 birds for their family freezer.

Thanks Cathryn,
I wasn't horribly wild about the judge, he didn't judge by breed in the large fowl class but by more of a production stand point. Kind of annoying when my sumatras and other peoples exotics and leghorns are in that class and he wanted them broad and meaty. We did ok though. He did say that the one silkie we took was in great shape and that it was an accomplishment in the weather we've been having. So that made us feel good. Now we just have to locate some black silkies that are black not chocolate and some more self blues to go with the one she has.

Congratulations to both of you! She did an excellent job with wins; it's a lot of work conditioning and planning ahead. It's better to be bit by the show bug than the peer pressure bug and I am so happy that your dd is taking her poultry projects serious!!! Good for her that she is interested in silkies!!! :) :) :)
