Hi Lynn,
I'm not sure how these things work either. I always thought that an egg was kinda like we are and are just there, but, after having my americauna lay the oddest eggs, I'm convinced they are like a manufacturing machine and they build them. My lady had laid an egg that was not closed on one end and looked like a ballon that she filled when she made the egg. Another time, she laid an egg that had two layers of egg shell. Maybe she is extremely inbred, which is causing all the weird eggs. She does lay normal eggs but 90% of the time, she lays double yokers. See my pics added to the photo album.
