Re: [CHICKENS-101] nesting boxes

I am not sure either why this happens, but I am dealing with same thing. I narrowed flock down to my two good Buff roo's, the two Buff hens, a 'mutt' and my (I think) Barndeveler (spelling??) that my silkies hatched for me in August, the youngin sleeps in nesting box, I think since the hen is harassing her at night to get off of 'her' roost...only thing I can think of with how they act, which is a surprise since the two comets, that are only two months older than the 'baby', ignore her. I think the young one is for some reason afraid of the mutt hen, since the hen is skitzy and acts more like a roo than a hen, lol.

The adolescent chickens I bought are roosting in/on the nesting boxes and pooping in them...I'm thinking they don't like the roost...or the roosters and the bigger hens are kicking them off the roost. Unfortunately, the older hens are now finding other places to lay (the barn, under the porch) because their boxes are poopy. Any ideas? Thanks, Dawn
