Wow!  I'd only seen the prices paid for large animals and knowing nothing about the value of meat on the hoof just figured it was top dollar for a good animal.  But having seen Dairy Goats sell at Nationals for $60,000.  I'm not surprised.  The 'real' price is negotiated out behind the hotel.

I about fell off the bleachers the first time I saw a girl get close to $500 for a rabbit!  And then the 'buyer' donated it back to the girl to be auctioned off a 2nd time and she got upwards of $80/lb .....  I didn't know then that local businesses are actually 'recruited' ahead of time to purchase the animals and it basically amounts to a scholarship for the kid and a tax deduction for the business.
